The Washington State Cougars predictably lost their bowl game this season to the Air Force Academy, dropping WSU to 6-7 on the season and clinching a losing record for Head Coach Mike Leach with the school for the fourth time in eight seasons on the Palouse.

Yet somehow, WSU Athletic Director Pat Chun gave Leach another contract extension before the inevitable bowl game loss, begging the question: Why?!

As detailed in November, Leach is a fraud, both inside and out. Another losing season at WSU merely re-emphasizes those points we made then, and nothing has improved since November for him, either.

He also lost for the seventh straight time to Washington in the Apple Cup, once again in embarrassing fashion, and Leach’s record this year against Power 5 schools dropped to 3-7 with the bowl-game defeat.

Overall, in Pullman, Leach is just 39-43 against Power 5 schools, and if it weren’t for his scheduling small schools regularly and beating up on them only most of the time, Leach would be a sub-.500 coach at WSU.

Why does that deserve an extension? Ask Pat Chun: Here’s his email address and his Twitter handle. He has some explaining to do, because despite those rumors some other school wants to hire Leach, WSU would be better off without him.

To recap: Leach is just 55-47 in eight seasons in Pullman, with four losing seasons and seven straight defeats now in the Apple Cup by an average margin of 21.3 points. He is 16-4 against small schools but just 39-43 against Power 5 opponents. He is not a leader; he is a boorish buffoon.

Let him go to another school the next time those “rumors” (probably started by Leach himself) arise. The Cougars can do better than this.
