We have just 10 more seasons to go now in our Pac-12 Friday miniseries on college basketball in the Conference of (real NCAA) Champions and its Midwest partners, the B1G. Combined in ’94, the two leagues put 11 teams into March Madness, and 3 of them reached the Elite 8. However, only 1 team managed to make it to the Final Four (Arizona), and it lost there to the eventual champ. However, it was still a successful season for the leagues we love here. Enjoy the read!

1994 Pac-10 PoY: Jason Kidd, G, California (original, confirmed)

The Arizona Wildcats won the conference by 1 game over both the UCLA Bruins and the California Golden Bears, with Cal guard Jason Kidd winning the PoY vote. While Kidd led the league in assists and steals, he also had teammates who led the conference in scoring and blocks. The Golden Bears were loaded, but is there anyone else to consider here? In truth, all three teams were loaded with players that appear all over the league’s statistical Top 10 lists. Dilemmas!

What stands out to us, though, is that Kidd topped his peers by 3.2 apg, which is unreal. That kind of player makes everyone around him better, especially on offense. No other player on Cal’s roster came with 7 apg of Kidd, either, meaning he was the key player on a team that otherwise probably would have come nowhere near the top of the standings. We confirm.

1994 B1G PoY: Glenn Robinson, F, Purdue (original, confirmed)

The Purdue Boilermakers won the conference by 1 game over the Michigan Wolverines and 2 games over the Indiana Hoosiers, as Purdue forward Glenn Robinson took home the PoY honors. Robinson led the league in scoring (30.3 ppg), was second by a sliver in rebounding, and even managed to make the Top 10 list in blocks and steals. He was a complete player. Is there anyone else to consider? Only Indiana F Alan Henderson, really, but Robinson’s efforts dwarf his. Check.
